Craft Along Video Series
Situation
COVID19 precautions required a local church to move their weekly children’s program to an online format
Task
- Switch from in-person to remote educational delivery
- Use a platform that all students had access to
- Educate and engage in a hands-on way that felt familiar
- Use materials that students already have at home
Action
- Initially used synchronous Zoom meetings only but had trouble sustaining the student’s attention for more than 20 minutes
- Switched to a blended synchronous Zoom/asynchronous YouTube format to
- Created YouTube videos to go with the Zoom lessons for students to do at their convenience
- Talked to the students during the videos in a conversational manner and followed up on the crafts and themes during the next Zoom meeting
Result
Class attendance increased during the COVID19 closure and students stayed engaged and connected
