Craft Along Video Series


Situation

COVID19 precautions required a local church to move their weekly children’s program to an online format

Task

  • Switch from in-person to remote educational delivery
  • Use a platform that all students had access to
  • Educate and engage in a hands-on way that felt familiar
  • Use materials that students already have at home

Action

  • Initially used synchronous Zoom meetings only but had trouble sustaining the student’s attention for more than 20 minutes
  • Switched to a blended synchronous Zoom/asynchronous YouTube format to
  • Created YouTube videos to go with the Zoom lessons for students to do at their convenience
  • Talked to the students during the videos in a conversational manner and followed up on the crafts and themes during the next Zoom meeting

Result

Class attendance increased during the COVID19 closure and students stayed engaged and connected
